Final District Meet 2019 Information

Hello CMQ!

Here we are, already prepping for finals at Briercrest Bible College & Seminary, May 3 – 5, 2019. The time really flies, doesn’t it?

Coaches, please read the following details carefully, and fill out and send your registration form to final.regATcmdquizzing.org (replace AT with @) by Tuesday, April 16, 2019. This is a week sooner than normal, and I know it can be tough, but Briercrest really needs numbers early for their planning purposes. If you run practices on Wednesdays or Thursdays, please at least shoot me an email with your best guess for number of individuals attending the meet, by the 16th, but we need to be as accurate as possible, so please do your best to have registration prepared by the 16th.

Details:

  • Cost for the meet is $80 per participant. Quiz masters and those running the stats room are exempt. All other officials pay $40. Cheques should be made payable to Canadian Midwest Quizzing. It’s easiest if you cut the cheque for your entire church group. You are welcome to include officials’ registration fees with your church’s cheque—just not their registration with your form!
  • Officials are registered by Janette Peters. Please do not include them on your team’s registration form. Have any interested officials contact denverandjanetteATgmail.com (replace AT with @). Note that registration cost for answer judges and score keepers is $40.
  • 20-question quizzes in the AB and C divisions. The C division is for rookie quizzers only. Quizzing is on the entire book of John.
  • Registration will be 6:30-7:30 on Friday, May 3.
  • We are staying on campus, and will assume everyone will be hosted in dorms. Indicate on your form if you will not be needing a place to stay. Everyone should bring bedding, as it is not provided. It is very possible that quizzers and coaches/officials under 30 will need to sleep on the floor.
  • The meet extends into the afternoon on Sunday. This differs from a regular quiz meet because we have church all together, then go for lunch, and then return to watch finals, and then have an awards ceremony. Quizzers who are selected for the international teams (generally the top 10 quizzers in the A division) will need to stay after for a short meeting (~30 minutes). Please plan accordingly if you have a quizzer who may be in this group.
  • The social will be held outside—please bring appropriate footwear. If it rains, we will have the social in the gym.
  • If you require a special diet, you must include it on your registration forms. Briercrest does not use nuts in their kitchen and dining facilities.

Additionally:

  • There are some different versions of the rule book floating around out there. Attached to this email (or blog post, depending on where you’re viewing this message) are the current CMA Rule Book, and a document outlining the CMQ modifications that we use at in-district quiz meets. If you have questions about this, please contact Lana Haight at jeff.lana.haightATgmail.com (replace AT with @). We will eventually get this posted on our website!
  • Another email from Lana will be forwarded following this information, regarding the purchasing of materials for next year!
