Praise & Prayer Item

First District Meet at Russell, MB was a huge success with a great social and a strong missions emphasis during the Sat morning and evening meetings. We are so thankful to God for the beautiful snow conditions that we enjoyed on the ski hill and then for safe travel on the roads amidst a weekend of stormy weather.

The Island team reported from their Nov trip that there was a young quizzer who was in desperate need of some medication. Llew Peters & family are planning on traveling to the Island Jan 30 Sat evening. Please pray with us that they can obtain the proper medicine this Friday afternoon before they leave. Thanks to the generous support they received at the quiz meet they have ample funds to make these purchases. Please pray all will go well and they are able to help. Also, Llew & Esther are willing to take along your emails as messages of encouragement to your friends.

Russell Quiz Meet

A big thank you to all of the coaches for sending their registration information to us twice. It's seems that everything is almost ready to go.

Just a reminder to have all of your quizzers that are sking, tubing, or boarding fill out a waiver form. Coaches can bring them to the quiz meet for Friday registration.

We will be praying for safe travel and for Russell as they finalize preparations for the meet.

Russell Registration Issue - PLEASE REPLY

Thank you to everyone who has registered for the Russell quiz meet. We have had a technical issue with the registration email address and we have not received any of the registrations submitted prior to this afternoon. We are asking coaches to please resend their registration form emails including the skiing information. We believe everything is working properly now and you should get a reply from Angela Davis that your registration has been received. Thank you for your assistance in this matter and we are sorry for any inconvience this has caused.

We apologize to Russell especially as we are trying to get all the information to their billet coordinator to make sure we have enough places for everyone to stay. If you have not registered yet, please do so today.

TOWELS - Please remind your quizzers being billeted to bring a towel to this meet. Some quizzers and coaches will be staying in a gym (boys) or a hall (girls). Showers will be available, but they will not have towels. We don't know who will be staying where yet so we are asking everyone to bring a towel.

The following registrations have been received and do not need to be sent again - Elim, Milestone, Nipawin, Prince Albert, and Spalding.

Elim Team Zambia Trip

Quizzers and Coaches
Our Elim quizzing team is preparing for the trip to Zambia- only 43 more days until we fly out! We are looking for a few more things to take. We are looking for a lap top computer. As well as children underwear!! Lots of clothes get donated to the Village of Hope orphanage but not much for underwear. So we are looking for NEW/ PURCHASED underwear for children size 2T - anything bigger.
If you would be willing to ask your churches to help donate these unappreciated yet very needed items that would be great. Please bring whatever you receive to the Quiz Meet in Russell and we'll take them with us to Zambia. Many bottoms will enjoy the new fabric and elastic!!

January Meet Registration Information

Warning: There is a lot of information in this posting.

The first quiz meet of 2010 will be held Jan. 22-24 in Russell, Manitoba. The meet will be held at Major Pratt School, Russell Community Hall, and the Russell Alliance Church. Registration will be 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the Major Pratt School. These venues are relatively close together and quizzers will be walking from one venue to the other. The meet will wrap up after brunch (12 p.m.) on Sunday from the Russell Alliance Church. The cost will be $30 per person.

REGISTRATIONS ARE DUE SUNDAY, JANUARY 10 . We would appreciate as many early registrations as possible. We need this time to prepare billeting for all of the quizzers and coaches attending and to compile all of the rental information for the ski hill. Please download and fill out the registration form and the Russell Social form and then return them to the registration email address. Make sure to list the number of teams in each division and include any vehicles that can be used to transport quizzers to billets. We will also need the ski, snowboard, and tubing information for each of the quizzers coming.

Thank you to all of the coaches who register on time. We had a number of late registrations in November and this makes it difficult to plan a meet. Please register on time. Thank you.

Question material content for the meet will include I Corinthians chapters 1- 15 with 20 question quizzes in the A, B, and C divisions. This will be the first district meet of the Corinthians quizzing year with 15% of the "A" quizzers personal averages going towards their overall year average. Quizzers need to bring winter gear, appropriate outside walking shoes, sleeping bags, and pillows as well any personal items required for the meets. Luggage needs to be identified with each quizzer's name and church group.

Erin Petty, officials' coordinator, would appreciate knowing about any adults coming to the meet that would be available to help with some of the officiating as scorekeepers or answer judges. It is sometimes difficult to get enough officials for meets that are not held in Saskatoon or Regina. If you are planning on officiating, please let us know if you require a billet and also provide us with your rental information for the ski hill by the registration deadline.

We are excited to announce that the social will be held at Asessippi Ski Hill. Quizzers will have the choice of skiing, snowboarding, tubing, or hanging out in the lodge. The rental equipment for all of the activities is included in the meet registration cost. This will include the rental of helmets as all quizzers skiing, boarding, or tubing will be required to wear helmets. Quizzers may bring their own equipment to the meet, but it will need to be stored in the team vehicles as the equipment will not be allowed in the church, school, hall, or at the billets. Teams will need to provide their own transportation to and from the hill. All first time skiers will be required to take a lesson. The cost to first time skiers will be an additional $15 each. Please note the quizzers requiring lessons on the ski rental form as we need to schedule the correct number of instructors. This extra $15 per first time skier can be paid at registration Friday night.

All quizzers under 18 will need to have a completed waiver form in order to ski, board, or tube. Coaches, please have the parents or guardians sign these forms and bring them with you to the quiz meet to be handed in Friday at registration.

If you have questions or concerns with completing the registration form or Asessippi rental form, please contact Angela Davis.

Send registrations and Asessippi rental forms to:
russell.regATcmdquizzing.org
Replace the AT with @. (We have to list it this way on the website to prevent SPAM emails.)

Click here to download the Russell registration form.

Click here to download the Asessippi Rental form.

(Quizzers need to select their activity by Jan. 14 in order to ensure we have the right equipment available and to minimize the time required to receive the rental equipment on the hill. This will maximize our skiing time.)

Click here to download the waiver form.

The Russell Social form is in excel format. For those coaches who do not have excel, here is a word document that you can use instead. Please use the excel spreadsheet if you have access to Microsoft Excel.

Information on Russell Quiz Meet Accommodations

We are looking forward to having First Districts in Russell. However, there are some challenges associated with a church in a small town hosting the entire Canadian Midwest Quizzing group. One of the challenges is finding accommodations for everyone.

We are working to be proactive so that everyone will have a place to stay. There are three ways that adults (coaches, drivers, parents, officials, etc.) who are planning on attending the meet can help us out.
1. If you can make your own arrangements for accommodations, please do so early as places fill up because of the nearby ski hill.
2. If you are willing to chaperon quizzers in a gym or hall or if you’re willing to drive quizzers to your billets, then register to be billeted.
3. Keep us in the loop. If you have found other accommodations for your church, let us know as soon as you do so that we will be able to estimate the number of billets we require.

The billeting coordinator for the Russell meet has prepared an excellent list of accommodations available. This list was handed out to each church at the November meets. If you need a copy of this list, please feel free to contact the registration email right away.

Click here for website listing accommodations for Russell.

Guidelines for registering teams for the draw:

These guidelines are to answer some of the questions we have received from coaches. They are only listed here for additional information. Our official policy can be found on the cmdquizzing website under coaches/ eligibility policy.
Click here for CMQ eligibility policy.

1. Teams may be registered in the A, B, or C division. A church may register any number of teams.
2. Teams that are registered will be entered into the draw and need to quiz at the quiz meet even if they are short quizzers. We strive to provide 3 team quizzing for all of the teams traveling to the meet. Of course, sometimes there are situations beyond our control, I.e. weather.
3. Teams must be registered in advance with a minimum of 3 quizzers unless your church has 2 quizzers or less. If teams show up with less than 3 quizzers at the meet because of an illness or another reason, that’s okay. We need to plan on at least 3 quizzers per team. If there are 1 or 2 quizzers from your church that would like to quiz in a different division, that is fine. Arrangements need to be made to combine teams. Coaches from different churches can work together to combine quizzers to form B or C teams. If a church does not know of another church they can combine with, feel free to ask for a combined team on the registration form. Quizzers joining other teams in the A division require CMQ committee approval. See the eligibility policy.
4. All of the quizzers registered with a team at Friday night registration must be present at the scheduled start of each quiz for that team in order to receive the starting 20 points. If a quizzer has an illness, an exemption can be made. Or if the team is still quizzing somewhere else and that room is running late, that’s acceptable. Quizzers that are late for the quiz or absent for the quiz will forfeit the 20 points for their team. Sports games, music presentations or other activities are not legal reasons for missing the quiz. Teams will not be penalized for quizzers that are absent because they were attending a school final exam.

Baseball Caps for Saskatoon Meet

We are looking for like new baseball caps that we can take to our favorite Caribbean Island. The team is packing this weekend at the Rock of Ages Quiz Meet. If any of the quizzers or coaches coming to the Saskatoon meet have like new baseball caps that they could bring to donate, that would be great!

Study Schedule Update

The I and II Corinthians study schedule has been updated to include the Russell quiz meet on Jan.22-24

Martin Luther Invitational Quiz Meet

Martin Luther Invitational Quiz Meet

CMD Coaches, Coordinators, and Parents,

We're excited to issue an invitation to the Invitational Quiz Meet held at Crown College. The dates for this year's quiz meet are Friday evening, January 15, and all day Saturday, January 16, 2010. Depending on your location this could mean leaving Thursday the 14th and returning home on Monday the 18th.

Goals of this meet include the development of coaches and quizzers who wish to represent Canadian Midwest District in future ‘out of district’ quiz meets, i.e., Great West and Internationals.

Should you have quizzers that you want to see attend this meet please call me at home (306) 249-1338 or reply by e-mail to ernie.munchinskyATgmail.com (Replace the AT with @.)

In order to make this an opportunity for the district to help develop your quizzers, I will register and form teams to represent Canadian Midwest District at Crown College. Therefore, please communicate with me, on behalf of your quizzers, in order to ensure that all relevant information is processed in the limited time available to us. Please fill out an application form for each quizzer and send it to me by mail or e-mail.

Click below to download the application form:
www.cmdquizzing.org/info/Crown_College_Application.rtf

Important points to remember:

If you feel your quizzers will likely attend please have them apply for passports right away.

Meet material consists of I Corinthians Chapters 1 -15:34 and the quizzer needs to be working at least at the level of Club 300 and mastery of total material to date is preferred.

The registration cost per quizzer, coach, or spectator is $110 per person. Cheques payable to CMQ are due by December 1st. Please send them to my address:

Ernie Munchinsky
311 Bentham Crescent
Saskatoon, SK S7N 3V5

Bus transportation to Crown College from Altona and return to Altona is included in the $110. Getting to Altona and getting home from Altona is at your cost. You will need about $30 US for meals while we are traveling back from the quiz meet.

We will meet at Altona, MB on Thursday evening, January 14th for our customary quiz practice. Teams will be formed so that they may practice together that evening and during the bus ride.

At Crown we may be housed in rooms that are also used for quizzing which means that you need to plan on bringing a matt, sleeping bag and pillow to sleep on the floor. Multiple groups may be sharing rooms and your belongings will not be secured so please do not bring any valuables.

Last year the quizzing equipment consisted of pads instead of the benches that we normally use in our district meets. If your church is willing to send benches the Northwest District would be very appreciative of your generosity in letting them use them for this quiz meet.

Thank you for the prayerful consideration of your involvement in this opportunity.

Best regards,

Ernie Munchinsky

We are excited to announce that the first district quiz meet will be held January 22-24, 2010 in Russell, Manitoba. And yes, Asessippi Ski Hill is booked for the social. Coaches Quizzing Directory Information

We are collecting the information for the 2009 – 2010 Canadian Midwest Quizzing Directory. This directory contains a list of all the churches involved with quizzing in the Canadian Midwest District. For each church, the coaches and their contact information are listed along with the names, grades, and gender of each of the quizzers. This information is used by the committee and host churches to plan quiz meets.

This directory will be handed out at the November quiz meet and mailed to the head coaches of the churches not in attendance. This information will not be posted on the website.

This year we are asking coaches to fill in the church or youth group that each quizzer regularly attends. This information will NOT be posted on the directory. It will only be used by the CMQ committee to maintain an even distribution of churches within the district and for plan to protect accountability. If a quizzer does not regularly attend a church, simply put “no church”.

In order to prepare the directory, we need each of the head coaches to fill out the following form and send it to the email listed below. We need to receive all of the information by Monday, October 19 in order to prepare the directory for use to plan the November meets.

Form to fill out for directory:
www.cmdquizzing.org/info/Directory09.rtf

Email to send the form to:
directoryATcmdquizzing.org
(Replace the AT with @.)

Here are a couple of guidelines to clarify the process:

1. Please list all of the coaches involved with your church quizzing group. We need the contact information for the head coach and will gladly include the contact information for the other coaches if it is supplied.

2. If you are a new head coach or committee member, please provide a head and shoulders photo. Just attach the electronic picture to your email when you send in the directory information.

3. List all quizzers involved with your quizzing program in last name alphabetical order if possible. If the quizzers do not attend meets, they can still be included on the directory.

4. If you have any questions, please contact Angela Davis. (My number is listed under Shellbrook if you don’t have a copy of last year’s directory.)

Thank you for helping us with this project. We realize that the directory form is quite specific, but it reduces the amount of rework if information is supplied in the same format as the directory.

Zambia Trip

Coaches, please mention this to your quizzers in case anyone is interested. Sheralynn Sauder is the coach for Elim.

Are you interested in Quizzing overseas? I am taking a team to the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada bible school in Kitwe, Zambia.
There we will teach the bible school students and pastors about the Bible Quizzing program. They will be taught how to be coaches, run practice, be co coordinators, run a quiz and quiz meet and how to be quizzers! We will also be working next door with the Village of Hope – Zambia children. Teaching them the game of quizzing, teaching them material and having fun!!
Zambia is an English speaking and an open country. We will not have to smuggle in equipment or quizzing material. We will be taking 2 sewing machines. This will be given to the bible school students, a source of future income for women leaving the school.
We are looking for quizzers who are have quizzed in the A division, 16 years or older, are working on club 300 or total material, have proper immunizations, health insurance and will be required finance themselves.
We will be leaving February 13-26, 2010. Quizzing material has been sent to the students already. They are working on club 145 of 1&2 Corinthians!!
Please pray about this. Email your info and I’ll be in touch with you.

It’s that time of year again for the local one day meets. This is a great chance to practice your quizzing, introduce the rookies to a quiz meet, reconnect with old friends and meet some new people.

There will be a one day quiz meet in Saskatoon on Saturday, October 3 at Elim Tabernacle. This meet is for Saskatoon and area churches. There will also be a one day quiz meet at Argyle Road Baptist Church in Regina for Regina and area churches.

The following information is for the churches interested in registering for the Saskatoon quiz meet. Corinne Lynnes has sent out an email with the information for the Regina meet. If you are interested in attending that meet, please contact her.

There will be an email update with the cost for the event. We are just finalizing the details for the day. There will be no charge for officials. If you are interested in officiating, please contact the registration email address listed below.

If your church is interested in attending, reply to the registration email address with the following information:

1. Name of church
2. Coach’s name
3. Number of teams in the A division and the C division
4. Number of people (quizzers, coaches, parents) attending the meet. (This will give us the number for lunch on Saturday.)

We realize this is short notice, but please reply as soon as possible and no later than Tuesday, September 29.

Also, if your church is in the Saskatoon area and you’re not planning on attending, an email greatly assists the planning process. Thank you.

Thank you to Elim for organizing a meet so quickly.
